“There is no greater joy than to help someone in need”

Throughout the healthcare system, Spartanburg Regional associates work to help patients and give back to the community every day.

And each year, Spartanburg Regional associates also give back to the healthcare system through the Spartanburg Regional Foundation's employee campaign.

These contributions will be put toward key investments in the healthcare system and in the health of our community.

In 2017, employees donated a total of $1,143,150. That's a three percent increase over 2016.

“Our employees are the backbone of our health system, and it's evident that they care about our patients,” said Shelly Sinclair, who coordinates the Foundation's annual employee campaign. “I am always blown away by the generosity of our employees. Not only are they taking care of our patients, but they are supporting the system to ensure that we can go above and beyond for them.”

Spartanburg Regional Foundation is organized around three divisions that support programs, technology upgrades, capital campaigns, education and patient funds in the areas of cancer care, heart health and hospice. The Foundation's work, however, is not limited to these divisions. Donors also support funds that address pediatric care, diabetes management, organ donation awareness, employee wellbeing, and much more.

In addition, the Foundation awards grants to healthcare system departments to support innovation, staff training, and new technology, as well as to non-profit organizations that promote health in the community.

SRHS staff members donate during the employee campaign, which takes place each fall, and throughout the year at fundraising events such as Hangar B, Hope Blooms and An Uplifting Event.

The 2017 employee campaign featured a new website – lovetogivehere.com – that enabled associates to easily donate online. The site provided information on the many areas of health and wellness supported by the foundation, including examples of specific projects funded in recent years.

“This allowed them to see how their donations are making a difference,” Sinclair said.

The website also provided a place for employees to comment on why they love to work and to give at SRHS. More than 300 employees gave testimonials.  Here is a sampling:

“Life is about sharing and giving. There is no greater joy than to help someone in need.”

“It's great to help a hospital that is truly committed to serving the needs of the community.”

“This is an amazing way to give back. SRHS Hospice was very helpful and supportive during my mother's end stages of life and this is one way that I can express my gratitude and help others.”

“I feel that giving back to the community is the right thing to do. Funds that support heart wellness help people pay for cardiac rehab, and this gives them the chance to restart their lives and become healthy.”

“The cancer center took amazing care of my Daddy years ago and I want them to be able to continue to touch lives!”

Sinclair said these and other comments illuminate both the quality of care provided by SRHS and the dedication of employees to the patients they serve.

“Whether it's because of a personal experience with our cancer center or hospice program, because they received help through the employee emergency fund, or because they just want to give back, it's wonderful to have so many employees embrace our mission to provide excellence in health,” she said.
