Raffle event to support fight against breast cancer

By Jessica Pickens on August 21, 2018

Spartanburg businessman Louis Smith is passionate about the cause of breast cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection. His mother is a breast cancer survivor.

“I've just seen so many women – even my age or younger – who have been diagnosed with the disease," he said.

Smith, who owns Smithworks Fine Jewelry, is partnering with Spartanburg Regional Foundation to support the Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health. On September 18, his store hosted a special event to raffle a Rolex Lady Datejust watch.

Tickets are $100 each, and a limited number are still available. A total of 350 tickets will be sold. The winner will be announced on October 22 at An Uplifting Event, Regional Foundation's annual luncheon that raises money in the fight against breast cancer.

Smith has supported An Uplifting Event in past years, donating items of jewelry for a giveaway at the luncheon.

“This is our 30th year in business, so I thought it would be a good year to do something really special,” he said.

Rolex describes the Datejust as “the modern archetype of the classic watch.” It blends durability and high-tech design with traditional elegance. The watch that will be raffled carries a retail price of $7,350 and features a pink face.

"The watch is even waterproof. You could go scuba diving with it in the morning and wear it out to a nice dinner that night," Smith said.

Smithworks is located at 361 E. Kennedy Street in Spartanburg.

“Money raised at this special event will make a difference for women in need, and we are truly grateful to Smithworks for its partnership and for this generous gift,” said Kristy Caradori, executive director of Spartanburg Regional Foundation.
