Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health – Education Room

Healthy and Balanced is a weight loss and physical activity support group for cancer survivors. Maintaining a healthy weight, consuming a nutrient-rich diet and engaging in regular physical activity after the completion of cancer treatment can be challenging. With the proper tools and support you can find your healthy balance while achieving your weight loss and physical activity goals. Join us monthly and work towards being healthy and balanced. CNA Hiring Event – Ellen Sagar Nursing Center

Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2 to 5 p.m.

Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System is hosting a CNA hiring event at Ellen Sagar Nursing Center in Union, SC. Walk-ins are welcome! Managers will be offering on-the-spot interviews. Even if you are currently not a CNA, meet the hiring leaders at this event and register for our eight-week CNA course.

Every year, the U.S. observes National Preparedness Month in September to remind Americans to be ready for any disaster — man-made or natural — that could affect them, their homes, communities or businesses. Doug Bryson, director of Spartanburg County Office of Emergency Services, will share tips to help assure personal preparedness, provide information to receive severe weather alerts and notifications and demonstrate where to access local resources from the web. Prepared: LAMAZE Childbirth (3-week series)

Sunday, Sept. 11, 3 to 6:15 p.m.

Spartanburg Medical Center

This three-week series will teach evidence-based information for normal and safe birth, influenced by the Lamaze 6 Healthy Birth Practices. AARP Smart Driver Course

Monday, Sept. 12, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Gibbs Cancer Center– Pelham

The AARP Smart Driver Course is the nation’s first refresher course specifically designed for drivers ages 50 and older. In many states, drivers may benefit from a discount on their auto insurance premium upon completing the course. And you will learn something new along the way. In fact, an evaluation of the course found that 97% of participants changed at least one driving habit as a result of what they learned. Click the link above to register.

 

Prepared Breastfeeding

Monday, Sept. 12, 6 to 8 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 20, 6 to 8 p.m.

Online Class

This two-hour class will help you get a healthy start to breastfeeding your newborn. Learn about milk production, feeding cues, latching techniques, milk storage and problem-solving tips for successful breastfeeding. This class is taught by a certified lactation consultant. Gibbs Cancer Center Prostate Screening

Tuesday, Sept. 13, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Gibbs Cancer Center– Spartanburg

One in eight men will get prostate cancer, the second most common non-skin cancer in the U.S. A new case is diagnosed every three minutes. The five-year survival rate for prostate cancer is nearly 100%. Get screened. Gibbs Cancer Center is offering free prostate screenings for qualifying men ages 40-70 and for men with an increased risk of developing prostate cancer. Qualifying factors include uninsured men or men without a primary care physician who have not had a PSA test in the last year within the recommended age range. Just the Ticket: Child Passenger Safety

Online Event

This class is designed specifically for violators of the Child Passenger Safety law. You will learn proper child passenger safety.

During this comprehensive course, offered by Spartanburg Medical Center and Safe Kids of the Piedmont, you will learn about South Carolina's child passenger safety laws, the safest way to secure your child in a vehicle, proper car seat installation, when to update or replace your child's car seat and other safety tips to help keep your child safe on the road.

Attendees who have violations of the child passenger occupant law on their records can receive a certificate of completion as proof of participation. This class is only offered once for child passenger occupant violations.

 

Diabetes Wellness Circle

Tuesday, Sept. 20, noon to 1 p.m.

Online Support Group
