Healthy & Balanced - Pelham

Gibbs Cancer Center Pelham - Demo Kitchen (Second Floor) 

Healthy & Balanced is a weight loss and physical activity support group for cancer survivors. Maintaining a healthy weight, consuming a nutrient rich diet and engaging in regular physical activity after the completion of cancer treatment can be challenging. With the proper tools and support you can find your healthy balance while achieving your weight loss and physical activity goals! Spartanburg Medical Center 

A certified lactation specialist facilitates an open, supportive forum to talk about the challenges and joys of breastfeeding. This is a casual gathering for breastfeeding moms and breastfeeding babies from birth through six months. Meet other mothers, discuss concerns and learn tips on breastfeeding and life with a new baby. Table For Two meets in the 2Tower classroom at Spartanburg Medical Center. Park in parking garage, enter main hospital doors, find elevator A, 2nd floor, take left and meeting space is on the left. 34th Annual Diabetes Management Conference Diabetes: The New Frontier

The South Carolina Coordinating Body and the Upper Piedmont Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists together with Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Corporate Education present the 34th Annual Diabetes Management Conference Diabetes: The New Frontier. The topics to be discussed are Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity & Diabetes, Nutrition with Kidney Disease & Dialysis, Beyond T1 or T2 Diabetes. The goal of this program is to provide healthcare providers the knowledge and tools to assist them in providing quality care related to diabetes management. There will be opportunities for networking and visiting with exhibitors.

Stop the Bleed Instruction Course 

Thursday, Nov. 3, 6 to 7:30 p.m.  

Minutes count! Someone who is injured and severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as three to five minutes. . T. J. Mack, trauma injury prevention and outreach coordinator with Spartanburg Regional, will demonstrate the three quick skills that are necessary for you to assist in an emergency and possibly save someone’s life before they bleed out. He will provide instruction and information and also check your skills as you practice the techniques you’ve learned. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a STOP THE BLEED course completion certificate. 

 

 
Prepared Breastfeeding 

Monday, Nov. 7, 6 to 8 p.m. 

Tuesday, Nov. 15, 6 to 8 p.m. 

Online Class   

Our breastfeeding class is an in-depth introduction that includes benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby. In this class, you will learn about milk production, feeding cues, latching techniques, milk storage and problem-solving tips for successful breastfeeding. This class is taught by a Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Please note that the 1st Breastfeeding Class offering of the month is ONLINE, the 2nd Breastfeeding Class offering of the month is IN PERSON. The in-person class meets in 2Tower classroom at Spartanburg Medical Center. Take elevator A to the 2nd floor, take a left and the classroom is on your left. 

 

Prepared Childbirth 

Tuesday, Nov. 8, 6 to 8 p.m. 

Thursday, Nov. 17, 6 to 8 p.m. 

Online Class   

Learn everything you need to know about the childbirth process and the options available to you during pregnancy, and labor and delivery. In this class, we provide the information you need to reduce anxiety and help you have a more positive birth experience. Prepared Childbirth is a comprehensive, fact-based and fun class, covering a wide variety of topics pertaining to your baby's birthday. 

 

 

Fall Themed Print Making 

Tuesday, Nov. 8, 6 to 7:30 p.m. 

Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute - Spartanburg  

Art is a great way to relax and tap into your creative side. The Survivorship Program will be offering monthly opportunities for survivors to fellowship with one another while creating art projects. Join us for print making and ornament painting. This session will be hosted by Wofford College Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts staff and students. This unique offering from the Survivorship Program is available to cancer survivors at no charge. To register please contact us at 864-560-1812. 

 

Prepared Parents: Infant Care   

Thursday, Nov. 10, 6 to 8 p.m. 

Spartanburg Medical Center 

Routine care for your newborn. This class is designed to prepare expectant parents for their baby’s impending arrival. Topics include: breastfeeding, diapering, bathing, medical and safety information and many other tips. This class is co-taught by one of our local pediatricians and a perinatal educator. 

 

Healing Circle Support Group

The Healing Circle Support Group was created to provide cancer survivors with support and healing. Are you in need of a community that understands the experience of having cancer? Are you looking for a safe place to share your thoughts and feelings about cancer survivorship and your cancer journey? Do you desire a space where you can be heard, seen, and connected without judgement? Are you seeking a group of empathetic, compassionate, wise companions to support your healing? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, or you feel a gentle nudge in your mind, body, or spirit towards this offering, come join us. 

 

Diabetes Wellness Circle  

Tuesday, Nov. 15, noon to 1 p.m. 

Online Event  

Diabetes Wellness Circle is an online and in-person support group intended to support, encourage and educate anyone living with diabetes. Everyone is welcome. Join us at noon on the third Tuesday every month for this hybrid (virtual & in-person) support group. Meetings are designed to have 30-45 minutes of education followed by 30-15 minutes of discussion. Please join the meeting then stay as long as you are able. 

 

Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection   

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Spartanburg Medical Center   

A certified child passenger safety technician will inspect your child's car seat for proper installation. Click on the link above to register, then call 864-560-6845 before your appointment for directions to the inspection station on the campus of Spartanburg Medical Center. 

 

Cardiac Connection   

Wednesday, Nov. 16, noon to 1 p.m. 

Spartanburg Regional Heart Wellness Center 

A community for people of all ages with or at risk for heart disease. Cardiac Connection is a monthly community group that supports people of all ages who have experienced a cardiovascular event such as a heart attack or stroke, had surgery related to the heart or are at risk for heart disease. Relevant topics and speakers vary each month. In addition, we offer encouragement and lifestyle improvement activities. You may also connect with others who have had similar experiences. If you or a loved one are interested, please join us. 

 

Cooking Up Confidence: Skills in the Everyday Kitchen   

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. 

Online Class   

Create healthy meals with ingredients from your FoodShare box. Medical Group of the Carolinas - Diabetes Education is hosting a 2-class cooking series. The classes are free, but space is limited. You will need to pre-order, purchase, and pick up a FoodShare Spartanburg box before each class. For more information about ordering deadlines and pick-up times visit, Ruthsgleanings.com/foodshare. FoodShare boxes cost $21 credit/debit, $20 cash, or $5 for folks with SNAP. The boxes contain nine to 12 varieties of produce, with a value of $30, some from South Carolina. 

 

 

Weight Loss Surgery - Online Support Group 

Thursday, Nov. 17, noon to 12:30 p.m. 

Online Class 

Upstate area support for patients in all phases of the weight loss surgery process. Combined with the support of friends and family members, this support group provides you with the opportunity to network with others who have experienced similar challenges and lifestyle changes after weight loss surgery. Patients who have not yet had their surgery are encouraged to attend. 

 

  

Safe Kids 101 for New and Expecting Parents 

Thursday, Nov. 17, 4 to 5 p.m. 

Online Class 

Protect your baby in the car, at home and while they sleep. This one-hour webinar includes safety topics that will help you keep your child safe and avoid accidents and injuries. Class information includes information about basic car seat features, installation techniques and how to choose an appropriate car seat based on your child's age, height and weight. Learn ways to avoid accidents in the home involving fire, burns, drowning, falls, and poisonings. Know how to identify safe and unsafe sleep environments for your baby. 

 

 

Just the Ticket: Child Passenger Safety 

Monday, Nov. 21, 4 to 5 p.m. 

Online Event 

This class is designed specifically for violators of the Child Passenger Safety law. You will learn proper child passenger safety. During this comprehensive course, offered by Spartanburg Medical Center and Safe Kids of the Piedmont, you will learn about South Carolina's child passenger safety laws, the safest way to secure your child in a vehicle, proper car seat installation, when to update or replace your child's car seat and other safety tips to help keep your child safe on the road. Attendees who have violations of the child passenger occupant law on their records can receive a certificate of completion as proof of participation. This class is only offered once for child passenger occupant violations. 

 

Virtual Veg Edge: Spaghetti Squash Primavera & National Diabetes Month 

Wednesday, Nov. 30, noon to 1 p.m. 

Online Event 

Learn more about the benefits of whole food, plant-based nutrition. To honor National Diabetes Month this November, join Erica Moore in the kitchen, a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and a Registered Dietitian. She will be showcasing one of her family favorites, Spaghetti Squash Primavera. Bring your questions related to plant-based diets and diabetes management to ask the expert! Join hosts Dawn Maddux and Kerri Stewart of the Joe R. Utley Heart Resource Center for topics revolving around *Whole Food Plant-Based Nutrition (WFPBN). This event is an open group intended to support, encourage, and educate. Recipes shared will adhere to the WFPBN guidelines meaning oil-free, minimal added sugar and minimal salt.
