Dr. Laura Galloway sees pediatrics as ‘taking care of the entire family’

By Staff reports on January 12, 2024

Dr. Laura Galloway always knew she wanted to be in the medical field because of her love for science and taking care of people.

During her time in residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, it became clear that her heart was in pediatrics. Part of her time in residency was spent working at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

“At one point, I thought I would do OB/GYN, but then I just fell in love with pediatrics,” Dr. Galloway said. “You really are taking care of the entire family. I like getting to know families as they grow, and I’m excited to take care of people from babyhood to teenage years.”

Dr. Galloway is now accepting patients with Medical Group of the Carolinas – Pediatrics – Boiling Springs

Home in the Upstate

Dr. Galloway grew up in Anderson and went to T.L. Hanna High School before going to the College of Charleston to study biology, and then to the University of South Carolina – School of Medicine in Greenville for medical school. She later moved to Memphis for her residency and finally made her way back home to the Upstate.

She enjoys living in Spartanburg because of the hospitality and the outdoors – and being able to visit with family friends in the area. Her parents still live in Anderson. She has a sister in Greenville and a brother in Charlotte, so she still feels close to family.

Regarding patient care, Dr. Galloway is focused on listening to the concerns of each family and taking care of each child from a holistic and well-rounded point of view, she said.

“So much of what I do is just listening to families and kids and walking with them in whatever they’re going through,” Dr. Galloway said.
