Dr. Cara Douglass values the personal relationships formed with patients

By Staff reports on March 7, 2024

Growing up in southwest Virginia, Dr. Cara Douglass grew fond of observing how her parents formed connections with their patients. Her mom worked as a nurse practitioner, and her dad worked as a chiropractor.

Now a physician working in internal medicine, she loves getting to know patients on a deeper level and forming those lasting relationships.

Her rotations in medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine involved visiting patients in small towns, an experience that reinforced a personal approach to patient care.

“We ended up rotating in small towns and treating people in those rural settings,” she said. “You got to see doctors having very personal relationships with patients and that was very encouraging and heart-warming.”

Dr. Douglass is now accepting new patients at Medical Group of the Carolinas – Internal Medicine – Greer.

Douglass, DO, chose osteopathic medicine for her training and education because she has always enjoyed focusing on the whole patient and learning more about the numerous factors that contribute to their overall health.

As an internal medicine doctor, she sees a wide array of patients. She is particularly drawn to the older population because she likes getting patients through more complicated conditions by helping them set goals.

“I always try to advocate for my patients,” she said.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Douglass loves tennis, cooking and traveling with her family.

Her two kids – a 14-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl – enjoy playing tennis through a local tennis academy, and her husband is an ER doctor.

Upstate South Carolina’s many opportunities for youth sports are partly what drew her to the area after practicing internal medicine in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

“The area is just a wonderful place to live,” she said.
